The Right to Delete: How to Erase All Your Data from MyFam360

India's DPDP Act gives you the right to delete personal data. Here's what gets deleted, what gets anonymized, and how to do it in MyFam360.

Most apps make deleting your account hard to find. It’s buried in settings, disguised in confusing language, or requires you to email support and wait a week. The friction is intentional — every user who churns is a data point that could have been retained.

We built it differently. This post explains exactly what happens when you delete your MyFam360 account, why some data is anonymized rather than deleted, and how to make sure you’ve backed up what you need first.

India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (DPDP Act, Section 13) gives you an explicit right to request deletion of all your personal data from any company processing it. The company must fulfill this request within 30 days.

This right exists independently of whether you’re a paid or free user. It applies to any personal data the company holds about you — regardless of when it was collected.

MyFam360 supports this right with a self-service deletion flow. No email request needed. No waiting for support to respond.

Before You Delete: Download Your Data First

Once your account is deleted, your data is gone. There’s no recovery window.

If you want a personal record of your financial history — for tax purposes, for import into another app, or just to keep — download it first.

Settings → Privacy → Download All My Data

This generates a ZIP file containing everything MyFam360 holds about you:

  • Full profile
  • All expenses (CSV)
  • All income entries (CSV)
  • All budgets, accounts, goals, settlements, recurring entries (CSV)
  • Consent records

The export is in CSV format — readable in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet tool.

How to Delete Your Account

Settings → Account → Delete Account

A confirmation modal appears before any action is taken. It lists exactly what will be deleted and what will be anonymized — so you know what you’re agreeing to before you proceed.

You’ll need to confirm your intent. The deletion is then processed within 30 days, as required by the DPDP Act.

What Gets Deleted vs What Gets Anonymized

This is the nuanced part — and it’s worth understanding before you proceed.

Hard Deleted (gone permanently)

DataDeleted
Your profile (name, email)✅ Deleted
Login credentials (bcrypt hash)✅ Deleted
Passkeys (WebAuthn public keys)✅ Deleted
Push notification subscriptions✅ Deleted
Consent records✅ Deleted
Plan trial history✅ Deleted
Bookmarks, templates, presets✅ Deleted
Feature interaction history✅ Deleted
In-app notifications✅ Deleted
AI insights (Family+ users)✅ Deleted

Anonymized (data stays, your identity leaves)

DataTreatment
Expenses in shared family groupsAnonymized — your name → “Deleted Member”
Income in shared family groupsAnonymized — your name → “Deleted Member”
Settlements (shared)Anonymized — your name → “Deleted Member”
Audit logsRetained 7 years; your email stripped

Why anonymization instead of deletion for shared records?

When you log an expense in a shared family group, that record belongs to the shared financial history — not just to you. If your partner’s records showed you as “Priya” on 240 shared expenses, and every one of those records disappeared when you closed your account, your partner’s entire financial history would be full of gaps. Their tax records, their budget reports, their settlement history — all damaged.

The DPDP Act and data protection frameworks globally handle this nuance with anonymization: your identity leaves the record (permanently and irreversibly), but the financial record itself stays intact for the people who still need it. “Deleted Member” is a non-identifiable placeholder — it cannot be traced back to you.

What About Audit Logs?

Audit logs — records of when data was created, modified, or deleted — are retained for 7 years under Indian financial record-keeping law. This is a legal obligation, not a choice.

However, your email address and personal identifiers are removed from audit log entries when your account is deleted. The audit log retains the action and timestamp, not your identity.

What About Subscription Payments?

Razorpay payment records are retained for 7 years under RBI compliance requirements. These records confirm subscription transactions, which have legal standing under Indian financial law.

Before deleting your account, if you need a payment receipt for your records, download it from your Razorpay account or request it before you close your MyFam360 account.

If you’re on an active subscription, cancel it first at Settings → Billing → Cancel Subscription — this ensures a clean cancellation record in Razorpay’s system.

What Happens Immediately After Deletion

  • Your session is terminated immediately — you are logged out
  • Your email address can no longer be used to log in
  • Any family group you owned is handed to the next admin, or dissolved if you were the only member
  • Family members receive a notification that you have left the group
  • Your name on all shared records begins the anonymization process (completes within 30 days)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I delete my MyFam360 account and data?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. A confirmation modal will show you exactly what gets deleted and what gets anonymized before you proceed. Once confirmed, your personal data is purged: profile, login credentials, passkeys, push subscriptions, consent records, and plan trial history. Shared family records are anonymized to 'Deleted Member'. The process is complete within 30 days.

What happens to my expenses when I delete my account?

Expenses you entered in shared family groups are anonymized rather than deleted — your name becomes 'Deleted Member' on those records. This preserves other family members' financial history (they still need to see what was spent and when, for their own accounting). Your name is permanently removed from those records. Any expenses in groups where you were the only member are fully deleted.

Can I download my data before deleting my account?

Yes — and we recommend doing this first. Go to Settings → Privacy → Download All My Data to generate a complete ZIP export of everything MyFam360 holds: expenses, income, budgets, accounts, goals, settlements, and more, all in CSV format. Do this before initiating account deletion, since the export won't be available after your account is closed.

Is the MyFam360 account deletion permanent?

Yes. Once the deletion is processed, your personal data cannot be recovered. This is by design — the right to erasure means the data is genuinely gone, not just hidden. If you later want to use MyFam360 again, you would need to create a new account from scratch.

What happens to my subscription if I delete my account?

Deleting your account cancels your subscription immediately. Razorpay subscription records are retained for 7 years as required by RBI compliance regulations, but de-linked from your personal identity as much as technically possible. You should cancel your subscription in Razorpay directly before deleting your account if you need a payment receipt for your records.
