Most finance apps have an onboarding problem: you’re asked to commit your financial data before you know if the app works for you. The first ten minutes are either a leap of faith or a bounce.

MyFam360 tries to solve this. Here’s the exact path from signup to your first genuine financial insight — and why each step is designed the way it is.

Step 1 — Sign Up (30 seconds)

Two options:

Google OAuth: Click “Continue with Google,” pick your Google account, done. No separate password created. This is the fastest path and adds phishing-resistance (your Google credentials are never sent to MyFam360 — only a secure token).

Email + OTP: Enter your email, receive a 6-digit OTP, enter it. No password needed at signup — you set one later in Settings if you want. The OTP expires in 10 minutes.

No payment information is collected at signup. No plan selection required. No phone number.

When you land on the dashboard for the first time, you have full access to the Experience Org — a shared, read-only demo of the app with 6 months of realistic family finances already loaded.

Before touching any of your own data, spend a few minutes in the Experience Org — the shared demo environment every new user gets access to automatically.

It’s marked with an amber “Demo” pill badge in the family switcher (top-left).

What’s inside the Experience Org:

  • 120 expenses across a realistic ₹50K/month salary narrative
  • 6 budgets at different utilization stages (green, amber, red)
  • 3 savings goals in progress
  • 3 trips (one upcoming, two settled)
  • 4 AI insights already surfaced (spending leak, commitment ratio, Emergency Fund timeline)
  • 6 months of net worth history — including one month that dips negative from a medical emergency

This isn’t a marketing demo. It’s a realistic financial picture — including the messy parts. The goal is to show you what the tool looks like when it’s working, before you’ve put any effort into it.

Step 3 — Start Your Own Group (60 seconds)

Click the family switcher and select your personal group (or start the onboarding wizard if you haven’t yet).

The wizard has 3 steps:

Step 1 — Group name and currency Pre-filled with your first name (“Priya’s Family”). Change it to anything — many people use their actual household name. Currency defaults to INR if your browser is in an Indian locale (or select manually).

Step 2 — Optional invite Enter an email address to send an invite OTP to a family member or partner. This step is optional — you can add members later from the Family page. If you invite someone here, they get an email with a one-time code to join your group.

A family-sharing notice appears here: sharing your financial data with another member means they’ll see every expense you log in this group. You must explicitly acknowledge this before continuing. It’s a brief notice, not a lengthy consent form — but it’s deliberate. You should know what you’re agreeing to.

Step 3 — Sample data toggle An optional toggle to load 6 months of sample Indian family finances into your own group as a starting point. Useful for exploring personal features (edit, delete, categories) with real-looking data before your own transactions exist. Sample data is clearly marked and can be cleared at any time from Settings → Sample Data → Clear.

Click “Finish.”

Step 4 — Your Trial Activates Automatically

In the background, when you click “Finish” on the wizard, a 7-day Family+ trial activates automatically. No credit card. No opt-in.

You’ll see an indigo banner on the dashboard: “Family+ trial active — 7 days remaining.”

Full access for 7 days. After that, your account reverts to Free — no charge.

Step 5 — The Getting Started Checklist

Below the trial banner on the dashboard, there’s a Getting Started checklist with 4 steps shown as a circular progress ring:

  1. ✅ Add your first expense or income
  2. ✅ Create a budget
  3. ✅ Set a savings goal
  4. ✅ Invite a family member

Each completed step unlocks a badge — small earned milestones like “First Entry,” “Budget Builder,” “Goal Setter,” “Family Starter.” Completing all four earns the “Fully Set Up” badge, and the checklist is replaced with a celebration card.

The checklist auto-hides 30 days after your signup date. There’s no pressure to complete it in the first session.

Step 6 — Your First AI Insight

This step has a prerequisite: AI Insights get meaningful after a few weeks of real transaction data. On day one with no expenses logged, the engine doesn’t have enough signal.

During the trial, add your actual expenses for the past few weeks. A few sessions of logging is usually enough.

Once there’s enough signal, AI Insights surfaces findings in two places:

  • Dashboard widget: Top 3 insights shown directly on the home screen
  • Insights page: Full list with severity badges (critical → warning → info), dismissal, re-generation, and the AskAI feature (natural language queries about your finances)

What the AI looks for:

  • Spending categories that have drifted significantly from your recent baseline
  • Recurring subscriptions you may have forgotten about
  • Savings goals that are on-track vs behind
  • Cash flow prediction for the month based on current pace
  • Large one-time purchases that could be an impulse buy (“Give it a cooling-off period?”)

These are rule-based observations from your own data, not suggestions from a neural network that’s seen everyone’s finances. Your data is never sent to an AI provider in transaction-level detail — aggregate summaries only, with your explicit consent (see Privacy Policy).

Why Each Step Is Designed This Way

No bank connection: Connecting to your bank requires explicit trust. A new user shouldn’t have to give that trust on day one. Manual entry first — you get in the habit of tracking, you build a relationship with the tool, and then (in a later version, Phase C) bank import becomes an option for users who’ve chosen to trust the platform.

Experience Org before your own data: Blank-slate apps bounce users. Seeing a working dashboard first — with real-looking data — changes the question from “will this work?” to “how do I get my own data in?”

Auto-trial on wizard completion: The trial should start when you’re most engaged, not 14 days later when you’ve formed habits without premium features. Day one is when exploration happens fastest.

Getting Started checklist: The four steps correspond to the four behaviors that determine whether a user keeps using a finance app long-term. Adding an expense, creating a budget, setting a goal, and adding a household member are the minimal viable habits that distinguish retained users from churned users. The badges make the habit-formation explicit without being patronizing.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to set up MyFam360?

The core setup — creating an account, completing the onboarding wizard, and exploring the demo org — takes under 5 minutes. Getting your first AI financial insight requires a few weeks of transaction data (the AI needs something to analyze), but the setup itself is fast. The 7-day Family+ trial activates automatically when you complete the wizard, so you'll have full access from minute one.

Do I need to enter my bank details to sign up?

No. MyFam360 is a manual expense tracking app — you enter your own transaction data. There's no bank connection, no account number required, and no net banking credentials needed. All you need is an email address (or your Google account) to sign up.

Can I try MyFam360 without entering any personal financial data?

Yes. When you sign up, you're automatically added to the Experience Org — a fully realistic read-only demo environment with 6 months of fictional family finances. You can explore every feature of the app without entering a single rupee of your own. When you're ready to start your own group, the onboarding wizard guides you through it.

What is the Getting Started checklist?

After onboarding, the dashboard shows a Getting Started checklist with 4 steps: add your first expense or income, create a budget, set a savings goal, and invite a family member. Completing these steps unlocks badges in the gamification system. The checklist auto-hides 30 days after signup, but you can complete it at your own pace.

What happens if I skip the onboarding wizard?

The wizard isn't mandatory — you can skip steps and come back later. Your trial still activates on wizard completion. If you skip completely, you start on the Free plan and can activate the trial manually from Settings → Billing → Start 7-Day Trial. The Experience Org is available regardless of whether you complete the wizard.
